Why Is BIDEN's New Car So Expensive? In a fascinating exploration, the YouTube video titled "Why Is BIDEN's New Car So Expensive?" delves into the lavish and extravagant details of the U.S. presidential limousine, commonly known as "The Beast." As one of the most recognizable and costly vehicles globally, this armored vehicle is an essential part of the U.S. presidential motorcade.
Key Features of "The Beast"
- Unmatched Cost: The production cost of this unique vehicle is expected to reach between $1 million to $1.5 million, but due to its specialized features and development expenses, the total investment by General Motors has surged to about $15.8 million. This translates to a staggering cost that is over 450 times the price of an average Ford F-150.
- Imposing Structure: Weighing approximately 20,000 pounds, equivalent to five elephants, the car's heavy-duty build is regarded as a combination of military-grade armor composed of aluminum, titanium, ceramic, and steel. The body walls are about eight inches thick, and the windows can't be rolled down, measuring up to five inches thick.
- High-Tech Defensive Features: The car boasts advanced security measures, including electrified door handles to deter unauthorized entry, shred and puncture-resistant tires, and a fuel tank fortified to prevent explosions upon impact. These modifications ensure the President's safety during potential threats.
- Weaponry: Rumored to possess on-board shotguns, tear gas canisters, and even grenade launchers, the vehicle's defensive capabilities are extensive. However, the specifics regarding its weaponry remain classified.
- Luxurious Interior: Inside, "The Beast" includes features such as an encrypted satellite phone with direct communication lines to the Vice President and the Pentagon, alongside a glass partition that only the President can control. There's even a firefighting system, showcasing the car's preparedness for emergencies.
- Limited Production: Produced only in pairs, the scarcity of these vehicles drives up both the manufacturing cost and the expenses associated with extensive research and development tailored to governmental specifications.
- Operational Costs: With a hefty 6.6-liter engine, this beast can reach speeds up to 60 miles per hour with poor fuel efficiency rated at 3.7 miles per gallon. Additionally, it always travels with an identical spare vehicle, significantly increasing operational expenses.
Conclusion
The video masterfully outlines the various factors contributing to the extraordinary price tag of "The Beast." Its combination of luxury, technology, and security is unparalleled. For those interested in automotive engineering or national security, this vehicle represents the pinnacle of complex design and purpose.
