Windows 7 3rd party software installation difficulty

I am trying to install some third party software and cannot get beyond the error message shown in the attached png file. Others have indicated no problem with XP. I am using Win 7 32-bit Home Premium and have tried the install in the usual way and from a bare boot.

Yes, but the default installation path is just fine. I am not sure what is meant by the "short path." Nor can I find it in any of the ini. files. It all looks like something for an old version of Windows although they say this is for Windows 7. It is installation software for hearing aids from one of the major manufacturers and is in wide use around the world.
