Teamfight Tactics Drops macOS Support in Patch 18.1

Riot Games says Teamfight Tactics will drop macOS support after patch 18.1, alongside older low-memory iOS and Android devices, while the studio moves the autobattler from its Hextech technology to Unreal Engine and works on restoring Mac support in a later update. The change was reported by PCGamesN, citing Riot’s official TFT channel and support FAQ.
The immediate impact is simple: Mac players will lose native access to TFT when the 18.1 update lands. Riot has not framed this as a permanent cancellation of Mac support, saying it is “working to support the OS” in a future update, but it has not given a return date.

The affected platforms are macOS, iOS devices with 2GB of RAM, and Android devices with 2GB or 3GB of RAM. Riot’s FAQ says accounts are not being reset or deleted, and purchases and earned content remain tied to the player’s Riot account.
That matters because TFT is not just a PC game with a separate mobile version; it is a cross-platform live service attached to Riot accounts. Players who can still access the game on Windows or supported mobile hardware should keep their progression and inventory.
Riot’s listed minimum PC requirement after the engine move is Windows 10 version 19041 or newer, with DirectX 11 support, Feature Level 4.3, and Shader Model 5. In practical terms, Windows 7 and 8-era machines are not the target here, and very old integrated graphics are likely to be a problem.

Why Riot is doing it

The support cut is tied to TFT’s move from Riot’s Hextech engine stack to Unreal Engine. Riot has previously said the change gives the TFT team more dedicated tools and technology for the game rather than continuing to share more of its technical base with League of Legends.
That may be good for long-term development, but engine migrations are rarely invisible to players. Riot is warning that the initial Set 18 patch will be larger than usual, and PCGamesN reports that the new standalone TFT client is scheduled for Friday, October 9.
There will be two Public Beta Environment windows: one beginning Tuesday, July 14, focused on Set 18, and another beginning Wednesday, September 9, focused on the PC client. Those tests are where Riot is asking players to report bugs and provide feedback before the wider rollout.

What players should do

Mac users should not expect patch 18.1 to be business as usual. If TFT is their main game on macOS, they will need a supported Windows PC or supported mobile device until Riot restores Mac support.
Players on older phones and tablets should also check their device memory before the update. A device that technically runs TFT today may fall below the new floor after the engine change.
For admins or support staff managing shared gaming PCs, the useful checklist is short:
  • Confirm Windows 10 version 19041 or newer.
  • Confirm DirectX 11 and Shader Model 5-capable graphics.
  • Warn Mac users that native support is being paused.
  • Expect a larger-than-normal first Set 18 download.
Riot says affected players who cannot access TFT on any device should contact Player Support, but for now the practical answer is to move to supported hardware before patch 18.1.
