Valve’s SteamVR beta has gained a redesigned dashboard that brings more of Steam’s in-game tools into VR, including achievements, community guides, notes, notifications, volume controls and device battery status. The headline addition is a Steam Deck-style Quick Access Menu, aimed at reducing the need to leave a headset session for routine controls.
The interface arrived in SteamVR beta 2.17.4 on July 17. Valve’s Steam Community changelog says the new dashboard is an initial preview and requires users to opt into both the SteamVR Beta and the Steam Client Beta. SteamVR beta 2.17.5 followed on July 18 with fixes for dashboard-follow behavior, room-view input handling and UI errors.

The update turns the SteamVR dashboard into a more complete in-game Steam surface rather than a basic launcher and overlay host. Users can now check game progress, consult guides or notes, and manage notifications without pulling off a headset or opening Steam on the desktop.
Quick Access also consolidates volume, brightness and battery information, including battery levels for additional connected VR hardware. Valve added a control for environmental and camera brightness where applicable, while the dashboard bar now exposes hover shortcuts for common actions such as exiting or redocking.
Other small but useful changes include the ability to quit overlay applications directly from the dashboard and improved positioning for overlays placed above or below the user.

Fixes beyond the interface

The release is not solely a UI refresh. Valve says Steam Link receives a fix for a dropped frame that could occur every few seconds, an issue that would be particularly noticeable in streamed PC VR sessions. The beta also corrects two OpenXR bugs affecting view-configuration dimensions and user-presence event data.
Linux users get general stability and error-state logging improvements, although Valve’s notes do not identify particular distributions, drivers or headset configurations affected.

Steam Frame connection

As reported by Steam Deck HQ, the timing naturally invites comparisons with Valve’s forthcoming Steam Frame headset. The redesigned controls look designed to give SteamVR a more console-like, self-contained interface, particularly for users accustomed to the Steam Deck’s Steam and Quick Access buttons.
That does not confirm any new Steam Frame hardware detail or release date. Valve has said the Steam Frame is shipping in summer 2026, but has not published a specific availability date or price. The dashboard changes should also benefit existing SteamVR setups, including Windows PCs using compatible wired or streamed headsets.
Windows VR users who want the new interface can enable the SteamVR Beta from SteamVR’s Properties page, but must also join the Steam Client Beta before expecting the redesigned dashboard to appear.
