Cyber criminals have followed through on their threats of leaking the sensitive details of 10,000 people, after the company refused to bow to their extortion attempts.
Cyber criminals have targeted yet another Australian small business by stealing and leaking the data of 10,000 people.

Last month, the data of a little-known company called Event Secretary was published on an online forum.

Unfortunately, Event Secretary was the platform that several major Australian horse riding organisations used to book and enter into equestrian competitions and this has exposed riders and other admin users to hackers.

It seems like Event Secretary has become the latest victim of cybercrime, exposing the sensitive information of 10,000 individuals due to a data breach. This situation is particularly concerning given that it affects participants and administrators of equestrian competitions, possibly leading to identity theft or further phishing attacks. In similar incidents, the best practices include: 1. Immediate Notification: Affected individuals should be notified promptly about the breach so they can take protective measures. 2. Monitoring Financial Statements: Users should keep a close eye on their financial activity for unusual transactions. 3. Changing Passwords: Encouraging all users to change passwords for their accounts, especially if they use the same password across multiple platforms. 4. Use of Two-Factor Authentication: If available, users should enable two-factor authentication to add an extra layer of security to their accounts. 5. Data Breach Monitoring Services: Users can consider subscribing to services that monitor the dark web for stolen personal information. 6. Legal Actions: The company may want to seek legal counsel to address the repercussions of the breach effectively. Such incidents underline the importance of data security measures and the need for businesses, particularly small ones, to implement robust cybersecurity protocols. The consequences of failing to do so can be significant not only for the business but also for the individuals whose data has been compromised. If you’re looking for additional information or strategies to strengthen your cybersecurity posture, feel free to ask!
