I have tried the western digital lifeguard tool, but it is unable to run the tests it simply crashes every time. The quick test throws up this error

FAIL
Test Error Code:06-Quick Test on drive 1 did not complete! Status code = 07 (Failed read test element), Failure Checkpoint = 97 (Unknown Test) SMART self-test did not complete on drive 1!

Can anyone take a look at these please and tell me if my HD is on the way out as I suspect?

Hi,

apologies for not getting back to you, had some issues myself..

If the drive completed a chkdsk then things might not be as bad as all that. To check the drives validity try using this app simply for it's capabilities for reading Smart values: SpeedFan - CNET Download.com

The above app has a great online report which is generated for free.

Another app you could try is this: HDDScan although I haven't used this much myself.

Just to mention, if no smart values are present you might need to enter the bios and enable it.
Code:
*******************************************************************************
*                                                                             *
*                        Bugcheck Analysis                                    *
*                                                                             *
*******************************************************************************

Use !analyze -v to get detailed debugging information.

Your bios is old:
BiosVersion = 0502
BiosReleaseDate = 11/16/2010

Please update to latest versions of which I notice are updates relating to HDD stability:

Please un-install these apps as they are known for bsod with win 7:

Asus PCProbe and AISuite Utilities

Also what security app do you run?

As for your HDD, see how things are after flashing the bios and try another chkdsk. If it fails again it's usually a good sign that the drive is on it's way out.. Still, if it does bsod then post the dmp file and we will have another look see..

I am going to update the bios and try again as you said, I use MSE for security. I cannot find Asus PCProbe or AISuite Utilities on this computer, I have looked in the program lists, I also used revo uninstaller and that couldnt find anything like it.

I just now tried another extended test and the screen went black and I got some wierd buzzing sound coming from the speakers. No blue screen at all. Ill report back when I have ran another chkdsk. Thank you for helping.

Whatddaya know, it completed this time. it is still failing on the HD tests though.
