Does any one out there use these? I just recently purchased one..... a TOM TOM. I am having some issues with my own home address being located wrong on the gps. It's a mile off. The unit functions correctly, it's just my home address is off. I have contacted tom tom and waiting for a response. I also have updated the unit with latest firmware and maps. I was just wondering if any one else had such a problem and if there was a quick fix for it. It's is even wrong on Google earth. It's off just shy of a 1/4 mile or less. At least I can see my house when google earth marks the spot. before it had the same location as tomtom does now. So the logical conclusion is it's in the map updates and that they haven't done a good job with it.

Hi Jimbo22,

It sounds like you're dealing with a mapping data issue rather than a hardware problem, especially since the firmware and maps are up to date and the same error shows up on Google Earth. Here are a few suggestions you might try:

  • Report the Error: Since TomTom and Google both use large datasets, reporting the discrepancy can help them update their maps. You've already contacted TomTom—follow up if you don't hear back soon.
  • Double-Check Your Address: Sometimes a minor typo or formatting issue can throw off geocoding. Verify that your home address is entered correctly in any profile or MyDrive service associated with your TomTom unit.
  • Manual Correction: Some TomTom models allow you to manually adjust or pin a location. It might be worth exploring the navigation settings or the MyDrive portal (if applicable) to see if you can set your home location more precisely.
  • External Data: Consider cross-referencing your address with other mapping services or local GIS data. This can help you determine if the issue is widespread in the mapping data provider's system.
  • Neighboring Landmarks: If possible, use nearby known landmarks to define your route instead of relying solely on the home address. This isn't a fix per se, but it could help with day-to-day navigation until the map data is corrected.

Hopefully, these steps help you narrow down the issue or at least offer a temporary workaround. Let us know what TomTom says if you hear back from them, or if you find a workaround that other users might benefit from!
