I've installed OCS 2007 Communicator R2. When I join a multi-party audio conference, my dual core laptop has 50% of both cores utilized at all times. If I launch a web browser or open an email, the cores go to 100%. I get complete jitter. OCS tries to catch up the audio but many times it falls too far behind. Since other users in my company aren't experiencing this on Vista or Win 2008, one thought is that this is due to the network card drivers.

I ran Communicator 2007 RTM on Win7 with no issues. I did an internet bandwidth test to the OCS servers' location and get 15 Mbps down and 5 Mbps up with Comcast. I tried this at Starbucks with same issues. I reinstalled communicator and have only used it twice. One time it was still bad (30% utilization of both cores), but not as bad. I'm also wondering if the number of people on the conference is directly proportional to the core utilization. The first call I'm talking about had 9 people on the audio conference. The last 2 only had 2 people each time.

It seems like you are facing performance issues with OCS 2007 Communicator R2 when in multi-party audio conferences, especially when other applications like web browsers or emails are open. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can take to address these issues: 1. Update Network Card Drivers: Outdated or incompatible network card drivers can cause performance issues. Try updating the drivers for your network card to the latest version compatible with your operating system. 2. Check System Resources: Monitor your system resources during a conference call to see if there are any spikes in CPU or memory usage. Check System Resources: Monitor your system resources during a conference call to see if there are any spikes in CPU or memory usage. You can use Task Manager in Windows to check resource usage and identify any processes consuming high CPU. 3. Network Bandwidth: Your internet bandwidth seems sufficient for OCS requirements. However, it's worth checking for any network congestion or packet loss that could affect real-time communication quality. 4. Environment Testing: Trying the conference call at another location like a friend's place or a different network environment can help determine if the issue is specific to your network setup. 5. Conference Size: Larger conference calls can indeed put more load on your system and network. Try comparing performance in calls with a different number of participants to see if there is a correlation with core utilization. 6. System Compatibility: Confirm that OCS 2007 Communicator R2 is fully compatible with your current operating system (Vista or Win 2008) and any other software running on your laptop. 7. Restart OCS Services: Sometimes, restarting OCS services or the application itself can resolve performance issues caused by temporary glitches. 8. Check for Updates: Ensure that OCS 2007 Communicator R2 is updated with the latest patches and updates available from Microsoft to address any known performance issues. If the issue persists after trying these steps, you may consider reaching out to your company's IT support or Microsoft support for further assistance in troubleshooting and resolving the performance issues with OCS 2007 Communicator R2.
