Windows 7 Computer deleting free dpace

About a week ago I started getting notification that my 1 tb hard drive was almost full. I found this hard to believe as I try to keep a fairly close eye on it. I deleted some unnecessary files and it then showed I had about 20 gb free. The problem continues to happen. This morning I got the notification again and I freed up 50 gb before I left for work. I just got home and had 0 gb free. I run defrag on a weekly basis and i have no idea what could be causing this issue. Is this a virus or something else? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I really hoped that you received any help as I am experiencing the same problem. Did you, in the mean time, manage to resolve it? I am desperate for an urgent help
