Every time i open the control panel a message window opens saying that windows explorer has stopped working!

Then any option that window offers resets my desktop and bye bye control panel!!!

Very annoying problem...

Anyone else have this problem and know of a solution or workaround for it?

Thanks

Ok! problem solved!!! I am using a Sound Blaster card but Windows decided to install drivers for my on-board sound card.
Realtek AC'97 Audio and Windows 7 don't play nice together!!

Disabled it and control panel is back!!! :D

Try backing up all files and re-installing Windows 7.

That was the first thing I tried. Twice and on two PC's for good measure... Thanks anyway. If this kinda stuff is what i can expect from Windows 7 it's back to Windows XP Pro for me...

Maybe they will get it right in Windows 8?? :-)

Windows 7 is a fantastic OS, it's just a shame you're having problems

Yea i agree it looks great and I like the new features. But not being able to access the control panel is a real pain in the brainpan! I will keep trying to find a solution...!!!

Realtek AC'97 sound works great for me. I could understand Sound Blaster and Realtek not getting along but my W7 Build 7100 works flawlessly with all my hardware.
