Windows 7 Default program problem

Suddenly DOCX attachments only open in Word pad. The simple solution seemed to be go to Default programs in the start menu and change the default from World pad to Word.
First problem: In the first option " Set your default programs" a list of programs appears to opt from. Word and the other components of Office 2007 are not listed. How therefore can one select the right program?
How can populate one the list with other programs?
Second problem: Under the second option "Associate a file type..." . DOC has a default program listed as Office Word yet all DOCX attachments open in Word Pad.

Any Ideas gratefully received!

Hi, I'd suggest having a look here:
Change which programs Windows uses by default
for your first problem, and as for the second doc and docx are 2 different file types. Granted they should open with the same program but you need to create and association for docx.
