Introduction​

Microsoft has introduced Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23506 to the Dev Channel. This update comes with a range of new features, enhancements, fixes, and known issues.

What’s New in Build 23506​

  • Passwordless Experience with Windows Hello for Business: Enterprises can now set the EnablePasswordlessExperience policy, allowing users on AAD joined machines to operate without passwords for core authentication scenarios. Recovery mechanisms like WHFB PIN reset are available if needed.
  • Unsafe Password Copy and Paste Warnings: Enhanced Phishing Protection in Microsoft Defender SmartScreen now includes warnings for unsafe password copying and pasting activities.
  • Local File Sharing Improvements: Improved features in the built-in Windows share window and nearby sharing for seamless local file transfers.

Additional Features and Fixes​

  • Outlook for Windows Update: The new Outlook for Windows Preview is now an inbox app, offering holistic email, calendar, and contact management in a secure environment.
  • Post-OOBE Experiences: After completing the OOBE setup, users may encounter new experiences tailored to enhance device setup and user interaction.
  • Auto Color Management (ACM) Expansion: ACM can now be activated on SDR displays for consistent color management across all Windows apps, regardless of color management support.

Changes and Improvements​

  • Windows Copilot: The Windows Copilot Preview, introduced in an earlier build, is now fully accessible to all Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel.
  • Richer Emoji Display: Windows now supports richer, 3D-like emojis with gradient designs for enhanced expression in communications.

Known Issues​

Various issues and performance considerations have been identified and are being addressed, including Windows Copilot behavior and File Explorer concerns.

Developer Resources​

The latest Windows Insider SDK is available for developers. NuGet packages include options for .NET TFM packages, C++ packages, BuildTools package, and more.

About the Dev Channel​

Microsoft has rebooted the Dev Channel, moving users on 25000 series builds to the new Canary Channel. Users can rejoin the Dev Channel by following installation instructions for a clean setup.
