My question is: How did he determine it was the circuit board that was bad? What diagnostic tools and or hardware/software did he use if any to test the hard drive? That's the stuff I would like to know.

That was my thought process too, but I didn't want to open a can of worms.

Interesting videos did you see anything about the bridge boards on WD external drives with encryption software? If that goes bad or the USB port breaks off the drive is useless.
