I am running Windows 7 64-bit build 7100 for about a month. And have been having no problems for most of that month. I run a EVGA 7950 GT KO with dual 22' monitors. Whenever i run a game such as World of Warcraft or Team Fortress 2, the monitor that has the game running on it will bug out and stop responding and everything will switch over to the second monitor and start running there. But once this occurs it is rather hard to get other things to show up again and it requires me to restart the computer and then both monitors are working again. I am wondering if the problem i am having is with windows 7 or if it is a problem with my graphics card.

I have updated to my new graphics drivers as off 7/3/09.

  • Monitor Cables and Connections: Check the cables connecting your monitors to the graphics card. Sometimes, loose connections or faulty cables can cause display issues.
  • Graphics Card Settings: Adjust the graphics card settings, especially those related to multi-monitor support. Ensure that the settings are compatible with both your graphics card and Windows 7.
  • Monitor Configuration: Verify that the monitor configuration settings in Windows 7 are correctly set up for dual monitors. You can access these settings through the Control Panel.
  • Compatibility Mode: Try running the games in compatibility mode for Windows 7. This can sometimes resolve compatibility issues with older games.
  • Resource Monitoring: Monitor your system's resource usage (CPU, RAM, GPU) while running games to check for any spikes that may indicate performance issues.
  • Event Viewer Logs: Check the Event Viewer in Windows for any error messages or warnings that could provide insight into the cause of the monitor switching behavior.

Updated Graphics Drivers:

Since you mentioned updating your graphics drivers on 7/3/09, it might be beneficial to ensure that you have the latest drivers installed. You can typically obtain the latest drivers directly from the manufacturer's website:

Conclusion:

While it's hard to pinpoint the exact cause without further investigation, following these steps should help you narrow down the issue. If the problem persists, it might be worthwhile to contact EVGA support or seek assistance from a tech professional to diagnose the issue further.
