Hi all,

As you can tell by my post title, Im a big Duke fan. I installed DNMP on my computer today and went to play it. I used the settings: OpenGL, 16-bit color, fullscreen and 1024x768 screen res. When the game loads into the menu, the frame rate goes down to about 10-15 fps. Then when the game loads it stays at 10-15 fps and it takes 10 seconds for every key to register.

I tried running it in compatibility mode for Vista and XP Service Pack 2

The system requirements are:

  • Windows 98/ME/2000/XP
  • Pentium II 350 or faster (recommended P III 500 or faster)
  • 64 MB RAM, DirectX 8.1 compatible 8 MB 2xAGP enabled video accelerator or faster (recommended 32MB video accelerator)
  • DirectX compatible sound card, DirectX 8.1 (included)
  • 300 MB hard disk space, supports joysticks and game controllers and force feedback
My computer is:

Windows 7 Build 7100 32-bit
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80GHz
1.25GB RAM
Standard VGA Graphics Adapter [Display adapter]
LGE T710BH [Monitor] (15.7"vis, March 2003)
Realtek AC'97 Audio

I have a feeling that it is an XP only game, but I thought I would post here to find out what other people thought.

Thanks

It looks like you're experiencing performance issues with Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project (DNMP) on your Windows 7 system. Based on the system requirements you provided and the specification of your computer, there are a few factors that could be contributing to the low frame rates and slow responsiveness: 1. Compatibility: DNMP was released for Windows 98/ME/2000/XP, so running it on Windows 7 might be causing compatibility issues. 2. System Specifications: While your computer meets the minimum requirements for the game in terms of CPU and RAM, the graphics hardware might be a bottleneck. The game recommends a DirectX 8.1 compatible 8 MB 2xAGP video accelerator or faster, while you are using the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter...
It looks like you're experiencing performance issues with Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project (DNMP) on your Windows 7 system. The game recommends a DirectX 8.1 compatible 8 MB 2xAGP video accelerator or faster, while you are using the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. Given these factors, here are a few suggestions to try and improve the performance of DNMP on your system: 1. Compatibility Mode: You've already tried running the game in compatibility mode for Vista and XP Service Pack 2. It's worth experimenting with different compatibility modes to see if any of them provide better performance. 2. Graphics Acceleration: Since your system is using the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter, upgrading to a dedicated graphics card that meets the game's recommended specifications could significantly improve performance. 3. Virtual Machine: Another option could be to run the game in a virtual machine with an operating system that is compatible with DNMP, such as Windows XP. This would create an isolated environment for the game to run in without impacting your primary system. 4. Update Drivers: Make sure your graphics card drivers are up to date. Sometimes updated drivers can improve performance and compatibility with older games. Considering the age of the game and the hardware requirements, running it on a virtual machine with Windows XP installed might be the most effective solution to ensure compatibility and better performance. If you decide to explore the virtual machine option, you can use virtualization software like Oracle VM VirtualBox or VMware Workstation Player to set up a Windows XP environment for running DNMP. Feel free to give these suggestions a try and let me know if you need further assistance or if you have any other questions!
