Windows Insiders can anticipate improvements to the Snipping Tool and Notepad, currently being rolled out to users in various channels.
Latest Enhancements
Snipping Tool (version 11.2307.44.0):
Introducing the combined capture bar to streamline switching between capturing screenshots and screen recordings without opening the app. Utilize shortcuts like Print Screen or Win + Shift + S for snipping and Win + Shift + R for recording.
Improved screen recording experience includes optional recording of PC audio and voice overs using a microphone. Users can configure default audio recording settings and select preferred recording devices.
Some users may encounter a pop-up dialog prompting to select an app to open the 'ms-screenclip' link when taking a screenshot. Choose “Snipping Tool” if this occurs.
Notepad (version 11.2307.22.0):
Notepad now automatically saves the session state, allowing for seamless closure and resumption of work without disruptions. It restores open tabs and unsaved content across tabs upon return.
Users have the option to disable this feature in app settings for a fresh start upon Notepad reopening.
Feedback and Engagement
Users are encouraged to provide feedback via the Feedback Hub under Apps > Snipping Tool or Apps > Notepad, depending on the application. The updates are being gradually rolled out to users in the Canary and Dev Channels, with feedback dictating broader deployment.
