In the latest update to the Photos app for Windows 11, Microsoft is introducing a range of new features and improvements based on user feedback. Let's explore the key enhancements:
Background Remove and Replace:
- Building on the previous background blur feature, the app now offers the ability to easily remove the background in photos or replace it with a different color.
- Users can remove or replace backgrounds with a single click, providing options to save resulting images, copy them to the clipboard, or change the background color using the color picker.
- Note: Initially, this feature is not available on Arm64 devices, but it will roll out to these devices soon.
Filmstrip Redesign:
- The Filmstrip, allowing quick previews of other photos in the same folder, has been revamped based on user input.
- Improved usability includes turning off Filmstrip by default, activating it with the “F” key or an icon click, moving it below the photo with enlarged thumbnails, and enhancing navigation with a larger scrollbar.
Timeline Scrollbar and Sharing:
- The Timeline Scrollbar, now present in all folders, dynamically adjusts based on the time range of the photo collection for easier photo location.
- Users can now effortlessly share individual photos backed up on OneDrive by utilizing the Share option and choosing OneDrive for sharing via email or copy-pasting links.
Other Improvements:
- Print button accessibility has been enhanced for single image viewing and aspect ratio options expanded in the Resize tool.
- Performance and stability updates have improved slideshow functionality, tab navigation, and image opening experience.
- The Clipchamp and OneDrive buttons are now conveniently placed in the main toolbar within the Viewer for easier access.
To access these new features, ensure your Photos app is updated to version number 2023.11110.8002.0 or higher. The update is gradually rolling out to Windows Insiders across all channels. Recommendations and feedback are encouraged for continued enhancements.
