So did you re-install XP and if so how has it been running?

Thanks. I installed XP from CD disc as you suggested

fyi the ntfs file system used today is different to what was around in the XP days... I would assume a usb image made on a mod system to be the root cause of her install issues but any of the older format tools like rufus should be able to fix that
