On some systems you still need to install the INTEL drivers rather than the pre-installed Microsoft drivers. Ignore message that says "Driver you are trying to install is older than current driver".
After a reboot request run the coomand prompt in elevated mode (run as administrator)

This should fix any WEI problems and allow full AERO.

I got W7 run'in smoothly, but it seems Aero is not supported (intel 915 chipset).
I tried your suggestion> didn't work so it looked like, tried the W7 registery hack for Aero too > system frooze.
In safe mode I could change the registery, now its back to Aero themes's enabled.
But no transparant Taskbar etc.
I get the message :
The current video card may support Aero with a driver that is compliant with the Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM). Contact the manufacturer of your computer or video card for a WDDM-compatible driver.
_ Can that get it fixed?
_ Can I change the color of the taskbar to Black? (how?)
- Can I use third party progam for a Vista Aero Look?
I think this is the problem with Intel 915 Chipset not with your computer because I also had one Laptop of Dell which had the same problem and could not make it Aero enabled.. If some help it'll be greatly appreciated...
Anyone sorted out this problem yet? I have the same Graphics Chipset, It works 100% with advanced effects in ubuntu and Windows Xp, just not in windows 7.

I also came across this inside the manual of my laptop (HP NC4200):

Capable PCs. All Windows Vista Capable PCs will run the core experiences
of Windows Vista, such as innovations in organizing and finding information,
