Hello there,

My systems specs are as follows:

Epox 9NPA+ Ultra mobo (nForce 4)

AMD Athlon 64, 2200 MHz 3500+

1024 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM)

NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS (256 MB)

200 GB SATA 7200 rpm HD

I'd like to use win 7 to make use of direct x 10 since win xp lacks the support and generally play games like F.E.A.R 2 and Modern warfare.

Do you think I would be able to play these games w/o problems with better graphics and about the same speed in Win 7 (or some kind of Gamer edition like ARC) ?

Help me here please guys, I dont want to format my system for nothing!

Well, looking at the specs, you'll likely be stuck to low/medium detail, XP will still likely be fastest option due to your lack of system ram for the mentioned games, although if you jump to Win 7 with its better optimisations and Dx10, the gains may not be that noticeble due to the low end hardware you have, Dx10 in itself may glean a few nicer looks but nothing earth shattering.

Generally speaking for Win 7 as a gaming platform you really need 2gig ram and dual core cpu teamed up with a nvidia 8800 (or higher) or a ATi 4650 (or higher) before you'll notice real the advantages over XP, since multicore cpu support on windows 7 is optimised compared to XP's, in my years of experience.
