Windows 7 Keyboard Layout Issues on Presario CQ61 with Windows 7: Symbols Mismatched

I have bought a new Presario CQ61 model CQ61 - 406TU notebook with windows 7. In this moment I am using my old computer to come here because I have number of problems; one is that the keyboard types differently than what is on the keys. For instance if I hit the @ I get ", and vice versa! Instead of # I get British pound symbol. The # symbol is there somewhere instead of some fancy brackets, but I have not found the back slash at all. I have the key board setting on Australian English.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance

All I might think of is make sure it is set to the 101 keyboard if that is what you have.

Is there a function or numlock key that might need to be used?

Can you change the keyboard language to something else to see if it changes?

I assume you got the computer with Win 7 already installed? Did you change the keyboard to Australian or did you get it that way?

Yes it came with the windows 7 and it was already set on English (Australian). Thanks I will try to set it on different setting.
