People networking and exchanging ideas at a professional conference in a spacious modern hall.
LinuxFest Northwest (LFNW) celebrated its 25th anniversary from April 25 to 27, 2025, at Bellingham Technical College in Bellingham, Washington. This milestone event underscored the festival's enduring commitment to fostering open-source communities and advancing technological education.
One of the standout presentations was "Easy Modular Sensors and Automation," delivered by Research Associate Sam Groveman. This session delved into the integration of modular sensors within automation systems, emphasizing the synergy between open-source software and hardware components. Groveman's insights highlighted the accessibility and adaptability of these technologies, making them suitable for both hobbyists and professionals.
The conference's success was amplified by the contributions of various organizations and individuals. Notably, Verification Labs, represented by Trey Blalock—an expert with credentials such as GCTI, GWAPT, GCFA, GPEN, GPCS, GCPN, CRISC, CISA, CISM, CISSP, SSCP, and CDPSE—played a pivotal role. Blalock's participation underscored the festival's emphasis on cybersecurity and the importance of penetration testing in today's digital landscape.
LFNW 2025 also benefited from the support of several partners and sponsors. Bellingham Technical College, the event's venue, has been a cornerstone of the festival since its inception. Cascade STEAM, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics education, collaborated closely with LFNW to enhance the event's offerings. Additionally, Jupiter Broadcasting, renowned for its focus on Linux and open-source content, contributed significantly to the festival's outreach and content dissemination.
The festival's agenda was diverse, featuring presentations on various topics, including Linux distributions, applications, InfoSec, and privacy. This breadth ensured that attendees, ranging from novices to seasoned professionals, found sessions tailored to their interests and expertise levels.
In conclusion, LinuxFest Northwest 2025 not only celebrated a quarter-century of community excellence but also reinforced its position as a premier event for open-source enthusiasts. The festival's success was a testament to the collaborative spirit of its organizers, presenters, sponsors, and attendees, all united by a shared passion for open-source technology and education.
