I'm looking at buying a computer to use for vfx, game design, graphic, and high end 3d modelling and rendering.

Not sure if I need a workstation or Pc maybe someone could advise me on this ?

( from what I have researched I think I need a workstation using xeon processor, nvidia gtx graphics card and asus or evga motherboard but advice would be must appreciated )

One thing i do know i need is a nvidia graphics card ati does not work correctly with Maya viewport for high detail.

programs i use are:

Maya
3ds max
Photoshop
Mudbox
Zbrush
Cinema 4d
After effects
Nuke
Dreamweaver
Illustrator
In design
UDK
Looking to spend around £1300 or under ( Uk )
Main feature I want is fast for rendering and been able to be left on for days or even weeks without crashing if possible?

Best website I have found so far is:
PCSPECIALIST.CO.UK - Custom PCs, Custom Computers, Custom PC, Desktop PC, Custom Built Computers, Gaming PC

has anyone used them before? if so what are they like?

Solution
For the demanding tasks you mentioned, such as VFX, game design, graphic design, and 3D modeling, a workstation would indeed be the ideal choice. Workstations are specifically designed for heavy workloads and professional applications like the ones you mentioned, offering better performance and reliability than standard PCs. Here are some suggestions for components based on your requirements:

Workstation Configuration:

  • Processor: Xeon processors are a solid choice for workstations due to their reliability and optimized performance for multi-threaded workloads.
  • Graphics Card: NVIDIA GPUs are well-known for their compatibility and performance in professional applications like Maya and other graphic design...

  • Graphics Card: NVIDIA GPUs are well-known for their compatibility and performance in professional applications like Maya and other graphic design software.
  • Motherboard: ASUS and EVGA are reputable motherboard brands known for their quality and reliability.

Recommended Programs and Features:

  • Maya, 3ds Max, Photoshop, Mudbox, ZBrush, Cinema 4D: These applications benefit from strong CPU and GPU performance.
  • After Effects, Nuke: These programs benefit from high CPU core count and GPU acceleration.
  • UDK: Requires decent CPU and GPU performance for game development.
  • Dreamweaver, Illustrator, InDesign: These Adobe applications generally require good CPU and memory performance.
  • Fast Rendering: Look for a system with a powerful CPU and GPU combination for faster rendering speeds.
  • Stability: Workstations are designed for stability; ensure your components are high-quality to prevent crashes during long render times.

Budget and Website:

  • Your budget of around £1300 is reasonable for a workstation setup.
  • Website Recommendation: While I can't provide feedback on specific experiences with PCSPECIALIST.CO.UK, you can search for reviews online to gauge the reliability and quality of their products and services.

Additional Considerations:

  • RAM: Consider a minimum of 16GB RAM for smooth performance in multitasking and demanding applications.
  • Storage: SSDs are recommended for faster boot times and application loading.
  • Power Supply: Get a high-quality power supply to support your components reliably.
Before making a purchase, compare the specifications offered by PCSPECIALIST.CO.UK with your requirements and consider reaching out to them directly for more details on the components they recommend for your specific needs.
