I have 2 PC's connected through network cable (1Gb network cards). On one PC I have Win 7 x64 RC on another XP Pro. On PC where I have Win 7 I have 3 network drives from PC where I have XP Pro. When I try to copy some files from XP Pro PC transfer speed is very low (<1MB/s). Before, when I had Vista instead Win 7 transfer speed was about 50MB/s.

If someone knows solution to this problem, please help me.

Thank you.

To improve file transfer speeds between your Windows 7 and Windows XP Pro PCs, you can try the following solutions:

Solution 1: Update Network Drivers

  • Ensure that both PCs have the latest network drivers installed for their respective network cards. Outdated drivers can result in slow transfer speeds.

    Solution 2: Check Network Configuration

    • Verify that both computers are using the same network protocol (e.g., SMB), and check if any network settings have been changed.
    • Make sure the network cables are in good condition and the network configuration is correct on both PCs.

Solution 3: Disable Remote Differential Compression

Solution 3: Disable Remote Differential Compression

[]In Windows 7, try disabling Remote Differential Compression (RDC) as it might affect network performance.
    1. Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off.
    2. Uncheck "Remote Differential Compression" and click OK.

Solution 4: Adjust Advanced Sharing Settings

    [
]On both PCs, adjust the advanced sharing settings to prioritize network performance over other factors:
    1. Go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change advanced sharing settings.
    2. Enable "Turn off network discovery" and "Turn off file and printer sharing".
    3. Disable "Password protected sharing".
    4. Save the changes.

Solution 5: Check Firewall and Antivirus Software

  • Temporarily disable the firewall and antivirus software on both PCs to see if they are causing any interference with file transfers. If disabling them improves the speed, you may need to reconfigure the firewall settings. After applying these solutions, test the file transfer speeds between the Windows 7 and Windows XP Pro PCs to see if there is any improvement. If the issue persists, additional troubleshooting steps may be needed.
