OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — A 21-year-old Overland Park man is being commended for his honesty after he was mistakenly given a bank deposit bag instead of his order at a KFC drive-thru this week.

Overland Park police said they were called to the man's home on Sunday. The man told police that he went through the restaurant's drive-thru in the 7100 block of 119th Street. He picked up his order, not looking in the bag, and went home. The man told officers he found the bank bag with cash inside when he got home.

Police Chief John Douglass wrote on his blog that "as the Officer and the man were leaving his residence to go back to the restaurant, they were notified by dispatch that a restaurant employee called and advised they mistakenly gave their bank deposit to a customer."

Restaurant workers said the deposit was placed into a bag by an employee and accidentally picked up by another worker and passed out through the drive-thru window.

The money was returned to the restaurant.

"Thank you to this 21-year-old man for showing us this great example of honesty and doing the right thing," Douglass wrote.
