Man, woman found slain at Mountain View dry cleaning shop ID'd as owners

Mountain View police confirmed Monday that the two people found shot to death at an Escuela Avenue dry cleaning shop Friday were the business' owners, 70-year-old Chang Yong Cho and his ex-wife, 62-year-old In Ku Lee.

Police spokeswoman Liz Wylie also said the department has classified the crime as a murder-suicide, believing Cho shot his ex-wife and then himself.

"However, we're still not ruling out two homicides until we examine all of the final evidence," Wylie said.

Friends at neighboring businesses last week said Cho — also known as "Joe" — and Lee had owned Vogue Cleaners for years. They also owned Calderon Cleaners on Calderon Avenue.

The couple were from Korea and each had two children from a previous marriage, friends said. Wylie said they both lived in Mountain View. They separated a couple of years ago and Cho was upset by the financial terms of their divorce, said a local business owner who knew them.

An employee of the dry cleaning shop arrived at work around 6:45 a.m. Friday and found the bodies, police said last week. A handgun was recovered at the scene.

Lee's autopsy took place Monday, Wylie said, and Cho's was scheduled for today. According to Wylie, Lee was shot multiple times in the torso and once in the head, and Cho's autopsy could show more definitive evidence that he shot himself.
