Windows 7 Media player in windows 7

Cant seem to play dvds with media player, its the latest version and my dvd drive is set to the correct zone. Stick a movie in and it just doesnt do anything. Any ideas ? Thanks

Does media player work with files on your hard drive?

Is the problem media player or the dvd drive?

Can you copy files from your dvd disks to hard drive?

I can play the dvds with VLC player no problem, and media player plays cds and video clips. I dont really want to resort to having the dvd files moved to my hard drive. Come to think of it, previous windows media players have never played my movie dvds
