Hurricane Irma is rocking 185 mph winds
"Do not sit and wait for this storm to come," Florida Gov. Rick Scott said Wednesday. "Get out now." He warned that Hurricane Irma is fiercer than Hurricane Andrew, the Category 5 storm that pummeled South Florida 25 years ago, killed 65 people and wiped out entire neighborhoods with its ferocious winds. As for Irma, the storm is the most powerful Atlantic Ocean hurricane in recorded history. It’s headed toward Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Cuba before likely hitting South Florida over the weekend. If Irma hits the U.S. as a Category 5, it would be the fourth such hurricane in recorded history to do so. Why do hurricanes even exist? This is the science behind these monster storms.
