I am trying to install Windows 7 32-bit onto a Compaq Presarion X6000. Here is the msg. I get.

Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070017.

I know the dvd is ok because I used if for a successful installation on another machine. I get this msg. weather I choose upgrade or custom install, boot off the disc or run setup from Windows, run from from XP or Vista.

Any suggestions,
Thanks in advance, Chris.

Are you connected using VGA, or another connector?
Do you have USB devices plugged in?
If you can, move to VGA, and unplug all unnecessary peripherals. Then try again.

Thanks, I'll keepthat in mind. I am re-downloading the Windows 7 image. Someone else suggested that I try burning the dvd at the slowest speed.

Re-burning the DVD at the slowest possible speed worked. Odd that the 1st DVD did install on another desktop.
