I hate to ask a dumb question, but is there a My Place Bar, or can there be one, in Office 2010--specifically, Word 2010? I don't see it now, so how do I get to it? There's no "Tools" option in my Files-Open dialogue boxes. I used to love this feature in Office XP. I'm now using Windows 7. Thanks.

In Office XP, the "My Places" bar was a convenient feature that allowed users to quickly access frequent folders and files. However, in later versions of Microsoft Office, including Office 2010, the "My Places" bar was replaced by the "Favorites" feature.

Accessing Favorites in Office 2010 (Word 2010):

  1. Adding Favorites:
    • Open Word 2010.
    • Go to the "File" menu.
    • Click on "Open" or use the shortcut Ctrl + O.
    • On the left sidebar, you will see the "Favorites" section. If it's not there, click on the small arrow to expand it.
    • To add a folder or file to Favorites, navigate to the desired location in the file explorer within Word Open dialogue box, right-click on the folder or file, and select "Add to...

      Windows 7 Notes:

      • The absence of the "Tools" menu in the File Open dialogue box in Windows 7 is normal. It is not related to the presence or absence of the "My Places" bar.
      • In Windows 7, the navigation in the Open dialogue boxes is slightly different compared to older operating systems like Windows XP.
By leveraging the "Favorites" feature in Office 2010, you can achieve similar ease of access to frequently used folders and files as you did with the "My Places" bar in Office XP.
