Hi guys,

Today I installed windows 7 on one of my old machines I had knocking about, its a HP Pavilion Ze5700, yeah, seriously old. System spec: Intel Celeron R, CPU 2.80Ghz, 1024 mb RAM, x86. I can't connect to the internet or hear sound. I think if i figure out the network adapter, i can maybe download the driver for it and connect then hopefully have a better chance with the sound.

I hear Conexant modems like in this won't work in win 7....not sure if its 100% true or not, hopefully though for me! I have 4 yellow triangles with exclamation marks showing in Device Manager for Ethernet Controller, Network controller, PCI Modem and Multimedia Audio Controller. Tried installing realtek ac 97 audio drivers but these have not worked.

Here are the hardware Id's:

Network Controller:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4220&SUBSYS_27418086
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4220&CC_028000
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4220&CC_0280

Multimmedia Audio Controller:

PCI\VEN_10B9&DEV_5451&SUBSYS_0850103C
PCI\VEN_10B9&DEV_5451&CC_040100

Ethernet Controller:

PCI\VEN_100B&DEV_0020&SUBSYS_0850103C
PCI\VEN_100B&DEV_0020&CC_020000
PCI\VEN_100B&DEV_0020&CC_0200

PCI Modem:

PCI\VEN_10B9&DEV_5457&SUBSYS_0850103C&REV_00
PCI\VEN_10B9&DEV_5457&SUBSYS_0850103C
PCI\VEN_10B9&DEV_5457&CC_070300
PCI\VEN_10B9&DEV_5457&CC_0703

I know HP say that this laptop isn't even Vista supported, so if I need to get better bits, what do I need? Or can I get drivers that will work?

Was looking forward to getting 7 on this old lappy see how it was, please can anyone offer any help, perhaps even a link or 2?

Grateful of any replies,

Thanks, Ash

Hey Ash, It's great that you're trying to revive an old machine with Windows 7! Let's tackle the issues you're facing:

Network Controller:

The hardware ID provided indicates an Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection. Unfortunately, Intel does not officially support Windows 7 drivers for this adapter. However, there are workarounds you can try:
  • Manual Installation: You might have to manually install the Windows XP driver in compatibility mode.
  • Third-Party Drivers: You can also search for third-party drivers that might work.

Multimedia Audio Controller:

The hardware ID suggests a SiS 7012 audio driver. For this, you can try:
  • Legacy Driver: The SiS 7012 driver might not have...

The hardware ID suggests a SiS 7012 audio driver. For this, you can try:
  • Legacy Driver: The SiS 7012 driver might not have official support for Windows 7. You can try installing the Windows XP driver in compatibility mode.
  • Generic Drivers: Sometimes, generic drivers can work. You might need to manually install them.

Ethernet Controller:

The hardware ID corresponds to a Netgear FA310TX or FA311 network card. Here's what you can do:
  • Compatibility Mode Installation: Try installing the Windows XP driver in compatibility mode.
  • Generic Drivers: Sometimes, using generic drivers can also be a solution.

PCI Modem:

The hardware ID is for a Smart Link 56K Modem. To get this working:
  • Compatibility Mode Installation: Attempt to install the Windows XP driver in compatibility mode.
  • Third-Party Drivers: Look for third-party drivers that might provide support for Windows 7.

Upgrading Components:

Considering the age and lack of official support, you might face limitations with Windows 7 on this particular machine. Upgrading certain components like the network card or sound card to more modern, supported hardware could provide a better experience.

Driver Download Links:

It's recommended to search for specific drivers using the hardware IDs on websites like the PCI Database or the manufacturer's website. Here are a few general driver download sites you can explore: I hope these suggestions help you get your old HP Pavilion working with Windows 7!
