I have Vista set up to open folders in the same window. Sometimes I want to open the Parent of a folder in a new window. With Windows XP I could hold down the CTRL key while double-clicking the 'Up' icon. I cannot find a way of doing the same in Vista.

Is there a way to open the Parent folder while keeping the child folder open?

Thanks for your help,

Spok.

To open the parent folder of a directory while keeping the current folder open in Windows Vista, you can follow these steps: 1. Navigate to the Child Folder: - Open the folder containing the subfolder for which you want to open the parent folder. 2. Use the Address Bar: - Locate the address bar at the top of the File Explorer window. It displays the path to the current folder. - Click on the folder name in the address bar (not the drop-down arrow, but the folder name itself). 3. Open the Parent Folder: - Press and hold the Alt key on your keyboard. - While holding the Alt key, press the Up Arrow key on your keyboard. This method is similar to the one used in Windows XP but with the Alt key instead of the Ctrl key.
