A 36-year-old Columbia man was stabbed in a downtown alley last night when he confronted a man for urinating on his dog.

Columbia police arrested Deanthony L. Weir of 500 W. Ash St. seven minutes after officers were dispatched to the scene, according to a Columbia police news release. The alleged incident happened at 10:33 p.m. in Alley A between Ninth and Tenth streets.
Weir was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault. He is being held in the Boone County Jail. His bond has yet to be set.
The victim told police he went into the alley to take his dog out and encountered Weir urinating in the alley, the news release said. Weir allegedly urinated on the dog and then stabbed the victim in the abdomen when the victim objected.
The victim was taken to a local hospital. His condition was unknown this morning, the news release said.
