I have a Gateway laptop running Windows 7. I have an HP Photosmart 3210 shared on an Intel based Mac. When I send a print job to the printer, the laptop recognizes the printer as ready and shows the job in the print queue. But when I look for the printer on the Mac it says Idle. When I print from the Mac (wired) it prints without problem. Any suggestions?
Thank you!

Solution
It seems like there might be a communication issue between your Windows 7 Gateway laptop and the shared HP Photosmart 3210 printer connected to the Intel-based Mac. Here are a few suggestions to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this problem:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Check Printer Permissions:
    • Ensure that the printer sharing settings on the Mac allow your Windows 7 laptop to access and use the printer. Confirm that the printer is shared correctly and permissions are set up properly.
    []Update Printer Drivers:
    • Make sure that the printer drivers on your Windows 7 laptop are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause communication issues. You can download the latest drivers from the...

You can download the latest drivers from the official HP website.
    [
    ]Restart Printer and Devices:
    • Try restarting both the HP Photosmart 3210 printer and your Windows 7 laptop. Sometimes a simple restart can help resolve connectivity issues.
    []Check Network Connection:
    • Ensure that both your laptop and the Mac are connected to the same network. Inconsistent network connections can cause printing problems.
    [
]Add the Printer as Local Printer:
    • Instead of using the shared printer, try adding the HP Photosmart 3210 as a local printer on your Windows 7 laptop. This can sometimes help in bypassing network-related issues.
    []Verify Firewall Settings:
    • Check the firewall settings on both the Mac and Windows 7 laptop. Make sure that the necessary ports for printing are open and allow communication between devices.
    [
    ]Printer Queue Reset:
    • Clear the printer queue on your Windows 7 laptop. Sometimes, pending print jobs can cause conflicts.

      Additional Steps:

    • Printer Connection Test:
    • Test the printer connection by connecting the HP Photosmart 3210 directly to the Windows 7 laptop (if possible) to see if it prints correctly.
    • Network Troubleshooting:
    • Conduct network troubleshooting to ensure there are no network issues affecting printer communication. By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue with printing from your Windows 7 Gateway laptop to the shared HP Photosmart 3210 printer connected to the Mac.
