Is there any way to access data entered into the Summary Tag under Windows XP, (for all files... not just pictures and music) in Windows Vista or Windows 7.

Windows XP allowed you to enter custom data for just about every file type.
For non "media" files the flowing default attributes are accessible:

Description
Title
Subject
Category
Keywords
Comments

Origin
Source
Author
Revision Number

Windows Vista and 7 "Details Tab" only respect Media files and older Doc files...

Solution
In Windows XP, users could customize metadata fields like Title, Subject, Category, Keywords, and Comments for various file types through the Summary Tab. However, Windows Vista and 7 primarily focus on metadata for media files and older document formats. To access similar metadata in Windows Vista or Windows 7 for all file types, including non-media files, you may need to utilize different methods since the Summary Tag function is not as comprehensive in these operating systems. Here are some possible approaches to manage metadata in Windows Vista and 7: 1. File Properties: - Right-click on the file and select "Properties." - Navigate to the "Details" tab to view and modify metadata fields available for that particular file type...

Advanced Property Editing: - For more advanced metadata editing, you can use third-party tools that offer extended metadata manipulation capabilities. Tools like "ExifTool" or software specific to certain file types can assist in editing metadata beyond what the native Windows interface provides. 3. File Explorer Columns: - Customize the columns displayed in File Explorer to include metadata fields like Title, Author, or Comments. This allows you to view and sort files by these attributes. 4. Metadata Editors: - Consider using metadata editors designed to work with a wider range of file types. These tools offer more flexibility in managing metadata across different file formats. While Windows Vista and 7 may not have the exact same interface for editing metadata as Windows XP did with the Summary Tag, the mentioned methods can help you work with metadata for various file types in these newer operating systems. Additionally, third-party applications and metadata editing tools can provide more advanced and comprehensive metadata management capabilities.
