I am replacing a hhd . win 7 pro 64b desktop pc. with a Seagate 1 T should it be formatted first of will the cloning tool do that also ?

Solution
You might like to think about splitting the 1TB into several partitions, which will, of course, require formatting. Even if you don’t split the drive, it’s best to format it first.
Most cloning tools warn you that they are about to erase everything before doing the cloning, so presumably they format the drive/partition.
