Hello Windows 7 Forum Users & Admins,

I recently wanted to "relive" the classic game but encountered some errors along the way. I spent countless amounts of time trying to find a cure. I have read that playing RTC1 is indeed possible after a couple of minor changes to the exe. file.

I have...

Changed the compatibly to Windows 95, Windows 98/Me, and Windows XP SP2 & 3.

Checked "Disable Visual Themes" & "Disable Desktop Composition"

Ran as Admin.

Downloaded a few patches for the Game.

As of now I can Save and Load games but the game within 5 minutes or less freezes and locks up my system so I can't "Alt-Tab" or "Ctrl-Alt-Del". My only option is to do a hard restart of my system and try again.

Anything would be helpful. Please feel free to email me personally if you so choose[email protected]

Thank you:p

It seems like you've put in quite a bit of effort to get RollerCoaster Tycoon 1 running smoothly on your system. Since you're experiencing freezing and system lock-ups during gameplay, even after applying various compatibility settings and patches, there are a few additional troubleshooting steps you can try to address this issue: 1. Virtual Machines: Consider running RollerCoaster Tycoon 1 in a virtual machine (VM) that mimics an older operating system like Windows XP. This can sometimes provide better compatibility. 2. Compatibility Mode: In addition to the compatibility settings you've already tried, you can experiment with different combinations. You can also try running the game in "Compatibility Mode for Windows 7". 3...

You can also try running the game in "Compatibility Mode for Windows 7". 3. Graphics Settings: Adjusting the graphics settings within the game itself can sometimes help. Try lowering the screen resolution or disabling certain graphical effects. 4. Driver Updates: Ensure your graphics card drivers and system drivers are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause stability issues. 5. System Resource Management: Check if your system is running out of resources during gameplay. Monitoring CPU and RAM usage can give you an idea of whether the game is overwhelming your system. 6. Clean Boot: Try performing a clean boot of your system before running the game. This can help identify if any third-party software is causing conflicts. 7. Temperature Monitoring: High temperatures can sometimes lead to system freezes. Make sure your system is adequately cooled and not overheating during gameplay. 8. Other Troubleshooting Tools: You can use tools like Event Viewer in Windows to check for any system errors around the time the game freezes. This can provide more insight into the root cause of the issue. If after trying these steps you still encounter freezing and lock-ups, feel free to provide more details or seek further assistance. Hopefully, one of these suggestions will help you get RollerCoaster Tycoon 1 running smoothly again!
