I have a couple of Sony Sx 46 IC recorders that I need to connect via USB port to my Windows 7 laptop. Sony supplies drivers for XP and Vista but has shown no interest in supplying them for Windows 7 64 bit.

Are there any software utilities that can somehow make either the XP or Vista driver work on Windows 7, 64 bit?

Or does anyone know how to hack a Vista 64-bit driver to make it work on Windows 7 64-bit? I. would gladly pay someone to do this.

Thanks Larry

To address the issue of using Sony Sx 46 IC recorders with a Windows 7 64-bit system when the necessary drivers are not officially available, there are a few potential solutions you can explore:

Compatibility Modes:

  1. Compatibility Mode: You can try installing the XP or Vista drivers in compatibility mode on your Windows 7 system. This feature allows you to run programs as if they were in an older version of Windows. Here's how you can do it:
    • Right-click on the driver installation file.
    • Select "Properties" and navigate to the "Compatibility" tab.
    • Check the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and choose the appropriate Windows version (XP or Vista).
    • Try running the installer again...

]Driver Modification: Modifying the Vista 64-bit driver to work on Windows 7 64-bit could be a complex process, requiring deep understanding of driver architecture and system compatibility. It's essential to have the necessary skills and knowledge to modify drivers safely.

    Third-Party Utilities:

[]Third-Party Utilities: There are tools like DriverMax, Driver Booster, or Double Driver that can help search for drivers from within their database and install them. However, the success of finding the right driver might vary.

    Community Support:

    [
]Community Support: Seeking help on forums or tech communities where users might have created custom drivers or found workarounds for similar issues could also be beneficial.

    Professional Assistance:

  2. Professional Help: If you decide to pay someone to modify the drivers, ensure you are consulting with a reputable professional to avoid any risks or security concerns. Before proceeding with any method, it's crucial to create a backup of your system and data to avoid any potential data loss. Remember to always download drivers and software from official sources or reputable websites to prevent any security risks.
