I have Windows 8.1 Pro and I have a problem with the taskbar. Sometimes, maybe about a quarter of the time, when I click on a taskbar button to switch to whatever program I get a system 'ding' and nothing happens. If I click the same spot right afterwards it works normally, and it does not happen every time. The second click is not a big deal, but it's annoying when the computer just fails randomly on such a simple request.

Solution
It sounds like you are experiencing an issue with the taskbar responsiveness in Windows 8.1 Pro, where sometimes clicking on a taskbar button to switch programs results in a system 'ding' sound without the expected action. 2. Update Your System: Ensure that your Windows 8.1 Pro is up to date with the latest updates and patches. Outdated software can sometimes cause unexpected behavior.
  3. Check for Malware: Run a full antivirus scan on your system to check for any malware or viruses that could be interfering with system processes.
  4. Check Task Manager: Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check for any processes that might be consuming excessive resources. End any unnecessary tasks.
  5. Check for Third-Party Software Interference: It's possible that third-party software or conflicting applications are causing the issue. Try booting into Safe Mode and see if the problem persists.
  6. Reset Taskbar Settings: You can try resetting the taskbar settings to default:
    • Right-click on the taskbar.
    • Go to "Taskbar settings" or "Properties."
    • Look for an option to reset the taskbar settings.
[]Run System File Checker: Run the System File Checker tool to scan and restore corrupted system files:
    • Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
    • Type sfc /scannow and press Enter.

]Check for Graphics Driver Updates: Ensure your graphics drivers are up to date as outdated drivers can sometimes cause issues with system performance. []Create a New User Profile: Create a new user account and see if the issue persists there. This can help determine if the problem is specific to your user profile. []Perform a System Restore: If the issue started recently, consider performing a system restore to a point before the problem began.
