Has anybody got this to work yet. I upograded my wireless driver this evening (Atheros AR5B95) and a new adapoter appeared, Network Connection 2 Microsoft virtual mini port adapter. I have been trying to use this connection without sucess. Basically I dont know how to make it connect to a wireless network. There is no connect option on it.

NOW, strangley the adapter had suddenly disappeared. I have no idea why. I will reboot in a minute to see if it reappears. Its playing with me :)

Windows 7 Build 7100. I haven't upgraded to the RTM yet.

********** the virtual adapter came back after reboot, but I still dont know how to implement it. **************

It seems like you've encountered a virtual mini port adapter after upgrading your wireless driver. This adapter might be related to virtualization or network bridging features. Here's how you can approach this:

Understanding Virtual Mini Port Adapters:

  • Microsoft Virtual Mini Port Adapter: This adapter is typically used for virtualized network connections, like those used by Virtual Machines or network bridging.

Steps to Connect to a Wireless Network:

  • Network Connection Setting:
  • Navigate to your network connections by right-clicking on the network icon in the system tray and selecting "Open Network and Sharing Center."
  • Click on "Change adapter settings" on the left side of the window to view all...

  • Click on "Change adapter settings" on the left side of the window to view all network adapters.
  • Connecting to a Wireless Network:
  • Right-click on the Microsoft Virtual Mini Port Adapter and select "Connect/Disconnect."
  • If there's no option to connect, it might not be intended for connecting directly to a wireless network.

    Troubleshooting the Disappearance:

  • Reboot:
  • It's good practice to reboot the system to see if the adapter reappears. If it does, you can then attempt to troubleshoot its connectivity.

    Additional Considerations:

  • RTM Upgrade: Consider upgrading to the RTM (Release to Manufacturing) version of Windows 7. Build 7100 is a beta version, and upgrading to the RTM could provide better stability and compatibility. If you're still facing issues connecting to a wireless network or need further assistance with the virtual mini port adapter, feel free to provide more details for a more specific solution.
