Trump Officials Get MASSIVE Raises As Government Shutdown Continues
In the midst of a prolonged government shutdown, a recent YouTube video highlights a stark contrast in how federal employees and top officials are being treated. While around 800,000 federal workers are either furloughed or working without pay, key figures in the Trump administration are receiving substantial pay raises.
The discussion begins with the implications of a government shutdown, during which approximately 400,000 workers are not getting paid. Many of these workers might believe that they will receive back pay for their missed wages, but the reality is grim—with most furloughed employees unlikely to see any compensation for the shutdown period.
In an executive order signed just before the shutdown, President Trump effectively prohibited federal workers from receiving their customary raises for 2019 due to budget constraints. Meanwhile, top officials, including Vice President Mike Pence, have enjoyed pay increases. Pence, for instance, received a $13,000 raise, boosting his salary from $230,000 to $243,000. Other cabinet members have also seen significant raises, some as much as $10,000.
Interestingly, this situation arose because Congress failed to renew a temporary legislation from 2013 that restricts raises for top officials during government shutdowns. As a result, Trump's appointees are now benefitting financially while federal employees struggle to make ends meet during one of the longest shutdowns in U.S. history.
This raises critical questions about how we prioritize governmental budgets and who truly benefits during these fiscal crises. The video encapsulates a frustrating juxtaposition—wealthy administration officials receiving financial rewards amid widespread hardship faced by federal workers due to their inaction.
