I am trying to setup a small file server for now using server 2003. I currently am using a Linksys wrt150n router and my main computer is running Windows 7 Home premium 64bit. I am using Norton Security Suite provided by Comcast cable for my security. I tested the network two way connectivity by pinging the server from my main computer and in turn pinging my main computer from the server. What I need to know is how can I access the files on the server from my main computer?
Thanks,
Matt
Thanks,
Matt

To access the files on your Windows Server 2003 from your Windows 7 Home Premium computer, you can set up a shared folder on the server. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you achieve this:
Setting Up File Sharing on Windows Server 2003:
- Create a Shared Folder:
- Right-click on the folder you want to share on your Windows Server 2003.
- Select "Properties" and go to the "Sharing" tab.
- Click on the "Share this folder" option.
- Set the share name and permissions as needed.
- Click on the "Permissions" button after selecting the folder to share.
- Set the permissions for the Everyone group to allow appropriate access.

- Set the permissions for the Everyone group to allow appropriate access.
- Note down the IP address of your Windows Server 2003. You can find this in the Network Connections settings.
Accessing the Shared Folder from Windows 7:
- Go to "Computer" on your Windows 7 computer.
- Click on "Map network drive" from the top toolbar.
- Choose a drive letter and enter the server's IP address followed by the shared folder name (e.g., \ServerIP\SharedFolder).
- If prompted, enter the username and password for your Windows Server 2003.
- Accessing the Files:
- The shared folder should now be accessible through the mapped network drive.
Additional Tips:
- Disable any firewall settings on both the server and the Windows 7 computer that might block file sharing.
- Ensure that both your Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003 are on the same Workgroup for easier network discovery.
- The shared folder should now be accessible through the mapped network drive.
