I have read all the tutorials online and keep getting hung up at one part.
I right clicked a folder in Windows 8 and chose "share with homegroup"
I then went on the Mac and went to "Connect to server" and entered the PCs IP
It then came up with a login box but nothing works in the password field. Does anyone know what password it is asking for here?
What is an easy way I can get this working?

I don't think Macs can acess a Homegroup anyway. Homegroups are only able to be joined by Win 7 & Win 8 computers. You have to setup a Workgroup in order to share with a Mac. See here: http://www.wikihow.com/Add-a-Mac-to-a-Homegroup

I think I finally got it. The box that was coming up wanted my local windows account username and password.
It was autofilling the username box so I assumed it wanted that name (it was my name) but I needed to change the username to my local windows account name.

You were right. I did read you can't join a homegroup with a Mac so I ended up just making the folder shareable and Connecting to the IP, from there it asks for local sign in using windows account credentials. Did that and it's working.
It's just VERY slow. I tried transferring a file between computers and it was less a MB/s. Not sure what's up.
