Hello David, I see that you're experiencing two issues with Live Messenger 2009 and audio devices in the sound mixer. Let's address each of your concerns:

Issue 1: Live Messenger 2009 Stays Active in Task Manager After Closing

When you close Live Messenger 2009, it may sometimes remain active in the Task Manager due to certain processes or settings designed to keep it running in the background. To prevent this behavior and ensure that Live Messenger completely closes when you exit the application, you can try the following steps:

Hello David, I see that you're experiencing two issues with Live Messenger 2009 and audio devices in the sound mixer. Let's address each of your concerns:

Issue 1: Live Messenger 2009 Stays Active in Task Manager After Closing

When you close Live Messenger 2009, it may sometimes remain active in the Task Manager due to certain processes or settings designed to keep it running in the background. To prevent this behavior and ensure that Live Messenger completely closes when you exit the application, you can try the following steps:
  1. Disable Automatic Sign-in: Go to the Messenger options and disable the automatic sign-in feature. This can sometimes prevent Live Messenger from running in the background.
  2. Check Task Manager Startup Items: Sometimes, applications have settings that allow them to start automatically when the system boots up. Check Live Messenger's settings to ensure that it is not set to run at startup.
  3. Manually End the Task: If Live Messenger persists in the Task Manager after closing, you can manually end the task to force it to close completely.
  4. Update or Reinstall Live Messenger: If the issue persists, consider updating Live Messenger to the latest version or reinstalling it to resolve any software glitches causing this behavior.

Issue 2: Audio Devices Reverting to Active State After Restart

To maintain the muted state of your microphone and line-in audio devices after a restart, follow these steps:
  5. Disable the Devices in Sound Settings: Right-click on the volume icon in the system tray, select "Open Sound settings," and navigate to the "Sound Control Panel." Find your mic and line-in devices and disable them.
  6. Save Sound Settings: After muting the devices, ensure you save the changes in the Sound Control Panel.
  7. Check Startup Programs: Sometimes, certain programs or services can reset system settings. Check your startup programs to see if any applications are reactivating the audio devices.
  8. Update Device Drivers: Ensure that your audio drivers are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause conflicts and reset settings after a reboot. By following these steps, you should be able to address both issues with Live Messenger 2009 and the audio devices resetting after a restart. If the problems persist, let me know so we can explore further solutions.
