I'm trying to learn how to type both the up and down arrows in a text, but the instructions that I found:

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_make_arrow_up_on_keyboard

says to use the advanced view in the character map and use the search function, but in mine the advanced view options are grayed out when the advanced view is checked. How do I activate these functions?

To type special characters like the up and down arrows, you can use Alt codes on your keyboard. Here's how you can type the up and down arrows using Alt codes:
- Up Arrow (↑): - Hold down the Alt key. - While holding Alt, type 24 on the numeric keypad (make sure Num Lock is on). - Release the Alt key, and the up arrow symbol (↑) should appear.
- Down Arrow (↓): - Hold down the Alt key. - While holding Alt, type 25 on the numeric keypad (with Num Lock on). - Release the Alt key, and the down arrow symbol (↓) should be displayed.
These Alt codes work in most text editors and applications. Give this method a try and see if it helps you type the up and down arrows. If you encounter any issues, feel free to ask for further assistance!
