Windows 7 Unable to install Wireless Adapter Software

I just upgraded my Windows Vista (64 bit) to the Windows 7 Home Premium (64 Bit). The first issue I came across is I could not get my Linksys Wireless G adapter to connect to the network. After some investigation I decided it was the driver and un-installed the adatpter with the intention of installing a newer Linksys Wireless N adapter that just had a Windows 7 driver posted on the Linksys web site.

This is when the new problems started. I cannot get the software to install from the CD I get the error "Your adapter may not be installed properly" which is a pretty useless error message.

As I cannot roll back to Vista and install the adapter I am in a situation where I have no network connection for my desktop which makes it furniture.

Have similar problems been posted and is there a way to get around this in Windows 7? I know the issue is this is a Vista installer for the software but it would seem Windows 7 should allow this as it is built upon the Vista platform.
