So i have two wireless networks in my house. When connected to one AP windows 7 identifies the network and works fine. The issue is that the computer is used on the other side of the house and is supposed to connect tot he other network. When it does though it says unidentified network and refuses to connect to the internet. When a ethernet cable is connected to the 2nd router/ap it works great. But it refuses to work over the wifi.... ideas?

Solution
It sounds like you are experiencing connectivity issues with your Windows 7 computer when connecting to one of the wireless networks in your house. The fact that it connects and works fine with one access point (AP) but not with the other suggests that the issue might be related to the configuration or settings of the second AP. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Check Network Configuration:
    • Ensure that the wireless network you want to connect to is broadcasting its SSID (network name).
    • Check if the security settings (password, encryption type) match between your Windows 7 computer and the second AP.
    []Forget the Network:

    • On your Windows 7 computer, forget the network that is causing issues.
    • Reconnect to the network and enter the network security key if prompted.
    [
    ]Update Wireless Drivers:
    • Make sure you have the latest wireless network adapter drivers installed on your Windows 7 computer. Outdated drivers can cause connectivity issues.
    • You can usually update drivers through Device Manager.
    []IP Configuration:
    • Check the IP configuration on your Windows 7 computer when connected to the second AP with the issue.
    • You can use the Command Prompt and run ipconfig /all to check the IP address, gateway, and DNS settings.
    [
    ]Network Troubleshooter:
    • Use the built-in Network Troubleshooter tool in Windows 7 to diagnose and resolve common network connectivity issues.
    • Go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Troubleshoot problems.
    []MAC Filtering:
    • Ensure that MAC filtering is not enabled on the second AP. MAC filtering can prevent devices from connecting to the network even with the correct password.
    [
    ]Signal Strength:
    • Check the signal strength of the second AP in the area where you are trying to connect. A weak signal can cause connectivity problems.
    []Restart the Router:
    • Try restarting the second AP/router. Sometimes a simple reboot can resolve connectivity issues.
    [
    ]Check AP Settings:
    • Verify the settings of the second AP, such as the wireless channel, frequency, and mode (e.g., b/g/n/ac).
    • Ensure that there are no conflicting settings that could be causing the issue.
  2. Firmware Update:
    • Check if there are any firmware updates available for the second AP. Updating the firmware can often resolve compatibility issues.

      Additional Tips:

      • Make sure there are no physical obstructions or interference (microwaves, cordless phones) affecting the wireless signal.
      • You can also try changing the wireless channel on the second AP to see if that improves the connection.
Try these steps and see if they help resolve the issue. If you continue to experience problems, feel free to provide more details for further assistance.
