As well known by default Win10 allows only to defer Feature Updates but not to block them (forever).
However there are some 3rd party tools which allow to block them anyway e.g.
- StopWinUpdates
- Wu10Man
- StopUpdates10
- Sordum Update Blocker
- Windows Update MiniTools
- .....
However it seems to me that they block successfully Feature Updates but also Security Updates.
Is there a tool which allow Security Update but block Feature Upgrades?
Is there a comparison (table) of these tools?
Thank you
Peter

When it comes to controlling Windows updates, especially separating security updates from feature updates, it can be a bit challenging. Here are a few tools and methods that may help you achieve this level of control:
Tools to Control Windows Updates:
- Windows Update Settings: In some cases, tweaking advanced settings within Windows Update can help defer feature updates while allowing security updates. This method isn't always foolproof but is worth exploring.
- Windows Update MiniTool: This tool allows you to control Windows Updates by choosing which updates to install or hide, helping separate security and feature updates.
- StopUpdates10: This tool provides various update blocking options, including the ability to stop feature updates while allowing security updates.
- Windows Update Blocker: A straightforward tool that helps prevent Windows Updates from running, potentially allowing certain updates to proceed while blocking others.
- Wu10Man: Wu10Man offers advanced options for controlling Windows Updates, including the ability to choose updates selectively.
Methods to Control Updates:
- Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc): Within the Group Policy Editor, you can configure Windows Update settings to defer feature updates selectively. This method is suitable for Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise editions.
- Registry Edits: Making specific changes in the Windows registry can sometimes help in blocking feature updates while allowing security updates.
- Metered Connection: Setting your current network connection as "metered" can restrict Windows from automatically downloading feature updates.
Considerations:
- Risk Factor: Blocking feature updates may expose your system to vulnerabilities fixed in newer versions, especially security updates.
- Regular Monitoring: If you choose to block feature updates selectively, ensure you monitor your system's security status and apply critical security updates manually. Unfortunately, there isn't a definitive table comparing these tools' ability to separate security updates from feature updates. It's recommended to explore each tool's features and test them to find one that best suits your needs and provides the desired level of control and update management. Always ensure you have a backup strategy in place before tweaking Windows update settings to avoid any potential data loss or system instability.
