Windows 11 Copilot App Gets a More Convenient Way to Talk to Copilot

Microsoft is making it easier than ever to interact with its AI assistant on Windows 11. In the latest update to the Copilot app—now a fully native WinUI 3 application—Microsoft has introduced an improved voice interaction feature that simplifies how you speak with Copilot. The update, version 1.25024.100.0, is currently rolling out to Windows Insiders and promises to let you start a voice conversation seamlessly without leaving your current workflow.

Enhanced "Press to Talk" Functionality

One of the standout changes in this update is the refined "Press to Talk" feature:
  • Quick Activation:
To start a voice conversation with Copilot, simply press and hold Alt + Space for two seconds. This invokes a mini dialogue window featuring a microphone icon that indicates Copilot is ready to listen.
  • Seamless Interaction:
Once activated, you can speak directly to Copilot, which then processes your voice input and returns almost instant responses. The integration is designed to keep you in your current workflow, so you can continue working while engaging with the AI assistant.
  • Easy Termination:
To end the conversation, press the Esc key, or let Copilot automatically dismiss itself after a brief period of inactivity. The on-screen microphone icon disappears once the session is over, ensuring a tidy, distraction-free interface.
  • Customization Options:
For users looking to fine-tune their voice interactions, the updated UI includes a settings icon to adjust Copilot Voice preferences to better suit your needs.

Gradual Rollout and Feedback Invitation

This update is part of Microsoft's continuous effort to enhance the Windows 11 experience through the Windows Insider Program. Although version 1.25024.100.0 is now available to Insiders across all channels, the new voice shortcut and interface will be rolled out gradually. Microsoft is actively seeking feedback—if you’re participating in the Insider Program, press Win + F under Apps > Copilot to share your thoughts and help shape future refinements.
For those outside the Insider program, Microsoft provides instructions on how to sideload the updated Copilot app, ensuring everyone can eventually benefit from these new features.

What It Means for Users

The new "Press to Talk" functionality makes it simple to engage with Copilot whenever you need quick answers or assistance, without the need for a full keyboard-based query. By allowing you to speak directly through a hotkey, the feature transforms how you interact with Windows 11, streamlining workflows and boosting productivity.
Whether you’re a busy professional juggling multiple tasks or simply looking for a smoother way to access AI support, the updated Copilot app is a welcome enhancement that brings you one step closer to truly hands-free computing.

Stay tuned as Microsoft continues to refine Copilot and other built-in Windows features, and be sure to provide your feedback to help shape the future of Windows 11.
