Windows 7 Windows 7 formatting DVD to use like a USB flash drive

All my trip photos were on a DVD. I put the dvd in the computer and went to open it from MY COMPUTER. It asked me if I wanted to treat the DVD like a USB FLASH DRIVE and I said ok. Then it started formating the dvd and since usually formating a disk causes all the data to be erased I aborted the process. Now my computer will not read the disk, or recognize it in the computer. All it says is it has 0 bytes used of 0 available, and it makes loud noises and sometimes causes MY COMPUTER to freeze.
PLEASE HELP! is there any way to reccover these photos/any place that could do it?
Thank you so much!

I'm guessing everyone is avoiding this thread... considering you've had no replies in 13 hours.

I really don't know how to say this gently but... it's gone.
In your place I'd be tearing a streak through Google looking for DVD recovery software.
Unfortunately I know of no software that can recover data from a DVD who's index has been erased...

Please don't shoot the messenger ;)
